Clausewitz, Carl von. De la guerra, Buenos Aires, Solar, 1983, trans. R. W. de Setaro (1ª. ed.: 1960 by Ediciones Mar Océano of Buenos Aires; full text reprint: Madrid, Ediciones Ejército, 1978 2ª ed., 1980). This translation has had many reprintings over time, especially as an abridged edition. Beyond any question, this is the best available Spanish translation so far. There seems to be an error in the attribution of the translation, however. R.W. de Setaro (Raquel [Clara] Warschaver) was the sister of Eva Flora Warschaver de Setaro (1912-2004), who was married to Ricardo M. Setaro. All three were involved in various published translations, but we have it from Flora and Ricardo's son Enrique that this translation of On War was made by Flora, who was based in Buenos Aires. Flora did not know German and based her translation on the 1943 English translation by refugee German scholar O.J. [Otto Jolle] Matthijs Jolles: Clausewitz, Karl von. On War. Trans. O.J. Matthijs Jolles. New York: Random House, 1943; Washington, D.C.: Infantry Journal Press, 1950. (For more information on the Jolles translation, click HERE.) Flora also translated one novel by Raymond Chandler and several other books. We do not as yet know the reason for the misattribution in the printed book, but it evidently should read "F.W. de Setaro," as she also used to sign her works, according to Enrique.) Her translation did not include the three introductory texts of the American editon (i.e., the "Foreword" by Colonel Joseph I. Greene, the "Preface" by Richard McKeon, or the "Introduction" by Jolles) nor Clausewitz's "Two Notes" or his own "Preface."

Clausewitz, Carlos von. De la guerra, Buenos Aires, Círculo Militar, volumen XLII de la "Biblioteca del oficial," 1968-1970 (1a. ed. 1922), 4 vols. The first volume was probably translated by two Spanish officers, Abilio Barbero and Juan Seguí. They took as their source the 5th German edition of 1905 with a foreword by Count Schlieffen. The following volumes are almost certainly translated from French.

Clausewitz, Carlos (sic) von. Principios esenciales para la conducción de la guerra, Buenos Aires, Imprenta del arsenal principal de guerra, 1902, trad. E. Maldones. (Probably a reprint of Los principios fundamentales de la dirección de la guerra, Madrid, Compañía Bibliográfica Española, s/f. No translator indicated.)

"Epistemologia, História e Estudos Estratégicos: Clausewitz versus Keegan" ["Epistemology, history and strategic studies: Clausewitz vs. Keegan."] Contexto Internacional 32(1):39-90 (janeiro/junho 2010). DOI: 10.1590/S0102-85292010000100002. Abstract: "The article takes issue with the understanding that Clausewitz would be a "philosopher of war." Clausewitz's theory of war is addressed with Lakatos epistemological criteria in mind, which leads to its confrontation with a rival theory: Keegan's theory, according to which war would be a cultural phenomenon. Different expectations are brought about by either theory in what concerns the ancient, Biblical Israel, between the XIII and the X Century BC. Clausewitzian theory's scientific status is established by this test. The text concludes by arguing that the whole field of strategic studies should be built upon Clausewitzian foundations."
